Edie Pilar Monroy

Edie was born and raised between the Bronx and Queens. A self-professed, proud "Borough Gurl." She is the first-born and only daughter of five.  A natural born leader, she relished every opportunity to take on the role of “General” and “Enforcer” when her parents required it, but also “Lead Troublemaker,” Boundary Pusher, and “Big Sister, Protector of her Brothers” – all of which later strongly influenced her penchant for strong, intense character choices:  from her dynamic and comedic portrayal of a daughter, mother, and grandmother, all wooed by the same man, to a sarcastic, sharp-tongued Nuyorican (Puerto Rican New Yorker) desperately pushing herself to finally date the nice guys, and even an entrepreneurial Brooklyn-Italian Vampire, Donatella Vallazza, Vampire Makeup Artist Extraordinaire, willing to suppress her lust for blood in order to launch her makeup line “Vita Delizioso” on IWantVD.com – she finds the blood and soul in the characters she takes on.

Edie’s bold choices have led her to win “Best Actress in a Short Film” at the New York Sparrow Film Project for Hippy Dippy and a nomination for “Best Actress in a Stage Production” at the well-respected Strawberry One-Act Theatre Festival for Blood Orange Sorbet.

A few years ago, while Edie recuperated from a bout of bad luck and broken bones, her dreams took on new forms of intensity - worlds began to form as she slept, and she felt an intense calling to write. She immediately enrolled in screenwriting intensives at Jacob Krueger’s Write Your Screenplay Studio and Gotham Writers Studio. She continued to document her dreams and hone her “meditative” writing craft, which showed a proclivity toward Science Fiction. Edie recently completed her first feature-length screenplay “World Reset” (Sci-Fi Drama), currently in review for Screencraft’s Science-Fiction Competition. She’s drafting her next feature-length screenplay, a Sci-Fi Supernatural Dramedy and she’s in pre-production to shoot a proof-of-concept for her TV-Pilot, “Marijuana Fairies”, a Sci-Fi Thriller that she’s starring in – yes, she began acting again once she recovered, and currently enrolled at The Groundlings in LA, where she’s refining her improv techniques

Her gifted imagination feeds her curiosity of things to come, the nuanced ways people behave based on their truth, and the endless possibilities, good or bad, for the future. Her strong historical background of all things fantasy, dragons, vampires, and magic, coupled with her travels to miraculous places like Petra in Jordan, Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan, or Skagafjordur, Iceland, where Icelandic horses outnumber the residents – fuels both her writing and performing.
